[Guide] Model Editing / Creating your own MPQ

Re: [Guide] Model Editing / Creating your own MPQ

Hey,
I followed all the steps to swaps Cata and MoP items but it seems I'm not getting it right, when I swap items it just empties the slot. Does anyone have a clue how to get it right?
I have no problems when it comes to items before Cata

Thank you in advance!

Hi, is it possible to make this work for TBC 2.4.3 ? My goal is to use the 1.12 oldschool blastwave animation as a mage (I just want to swap the animation nothing else), instead of the 2.4.3 one. I've looked around and found out that this old animation was still in the 2.4.3 client and displayed by one of the Ragnaros boss abilitys (Hand of Ragnaros or Wrath of Ragnaros I think...)

I've followed step by step the instructions on how to model-edit spell animations and I think I've done it right. I extracted the Spell.dbc file in mywarcraftstudio and opened it on a dbc-editor, then changed the displayID field of rank 7 blastwave to the displayID value of the Ragnaros ability, and saved that new Spell.dbc. Finally I created a patch file in mywarcraftstudio while including that new version of Spell.dbc by being carrefull to correctly enter the file path necessary.

When I put the new patch file in the Data folder and run wow.exe to start the game it instantly crashes and I get the following error message (Im using Windows 7 64-bits) :

My question is : is it possible somehow to do it the same way for 2.4.3 without using a program like WoWME.exe and having to press F8 key upon login and all that shit ? Cause I heard that method was more prompt to get you banned on private servers (like other 2.4.3 blizzlike private servers)

I'm searching for a working / safe way to get the old blastwave animation back for a very long time now (several years) but I always ended giving up because of all these issues with TBC :/ This has such a great impact in pleasure while playing a fire-mage.

Looking forward to your answer and thank you great job with this tutorial it was very clear and easy to follow !

==============================================================================
EDIT #1 : I've also tryed to create an MPQ by just swapping m2 files (tested race swap from ud male to orc female) and the game also crashed, at a different instant (it crashed at the character screen instead of on load), the error message is alike the other one.
Seems like you can't modeledit anything on the 2.4.3 client without adding a .exe software to fix these crashes...

==============================================================================
EDIT #2 : Don't need help anymore, I finally did it with WoWME.exe method, and you actually only need to use it once to make the mpq file work, after that the mpq file is set correctly forever, you can copy paste it in every client you want, share with any friends you want without having to use WoWME.exe anymore. Again thank you for this awesome tutorial and gl to the rest :)

Awesome guide, i'm surprised no one asked a question about the MoP Bloody Dancing Steel enchant. Can it be model edited into wotlk? And if so, could a model editing veteran do it for Berserk and Titanium Weapon Chain?

Hello, I'm curious to know if it's possible to enhance the "density" of enchants such as mongoose, executioner etc. beyond the limit within WoW. I'd like the glow of the enchant to become bigger to the extent that you almost can't even see the weapon ( something like almost making my dagger become a mongoose glowing ball due to the size of the enchant and it's density that you nearly can't even see the weapon ). It would be so wonderful if someone could make an .MPQ for it if it isn't too much to ask. Thanks a lot in advance, I'm looking forward to your reply.

TUTORIAL: HOW TO RECOLOR / RESKIN GEAR

Hey brahs! i come with another tutorial.

Tools we need:

- MyWarcraftStudio
- Blp Converter
- Paint//Photoshop//Image editor

So, we start finding the piece we wanna recolor, so we open MyWarcraftStudio and we open "common.mpq" which can be found in Data folder:

Image

So when we are here we open "ITEM", then "OBJECTCOMPONENTS" and we go to the slot we want to recolor.

In this case i will recolor this item http://www.wowhead.com/item=3536/demon-hunter-blindfold

So i go to head and i find the .blp like this:

Image

Right click it and extract it.

Then we use BLP convertor. You pick the .exe and put it in your desktop. Then just pick the .blp and put it above the blp convertor. It will create a .png version of the .mpq.

Then you edit the .png img with paint or photoshop. I will do an infernal helm.

Ill pick a random img with fire and merge it.

Image

Next step is deleting the original .blp so the blp convertor can make another one with the same name.

You bring the .png into the blp convertor and it will create a new .blp with the modified img.

Next, on MyWarcraftStudio you go to pack - > create .MPQ archive. When you create it click on pack again and click on "add file to archive"

Then you examine the .blp but before adding it you have to type "ITEM\OBJECTCOMPONENTS\HEAD\" In this case, because i'm using a head so it will be like this:

Image

Click on Pack again and on save and close archive.

Then we just check the result ingame. We drop the patch to "Data" folder with patch-x name, for example. We use modelswapper to swap anyhelm into it.

RESULT INGAME:

Image

Download this patch: patch-x.mpq

So yeah, thats it. You just need to use imagination and post here some patches, share them with us!

PS: This also works with my Cata/MoP items patch, so its the coolest shit!

PS2: I don't know if this works for cata :(

For any question PM me :D

Enjoy broskis!

Hi,

Can someone update (if it's even possible) the patch where you can model swap items into MoP items so that you can swap items from patch 5.4?
